For my very first product review being a Bibrave pro, I was really excited to try out Now Sports BCAA blast and effer-energy tablets. During the summer here, I routinely take salt tablets similar to the effer-energy to replenish my sodium, potassium, and magnesium after long, sweaty sessions. You would be surprised how many salts you lose in sweat! In addition, they also sent me their preworkout powder BCAA blast. I’ve never used BCAAs before, so was excited to try something a bit different for my workouts.
Now Foods also sent me a sweet shaker bottle!
First thing I did was go take a look at the company’s website. Now Sports guarantees purity with informed-sport certification. So, not only are they doing in-house testing for “identity, purity, strength and composition”, they also have this testing done by other entities. Which is super important to me!
BCAA Energy Blast
My first try of BCAA Blast Powder in Natural Raspberry Flavor was actually for a midafternoon lifting session. Each scoop of powder is 30 calories and includes 100 mg of caffeine. The instructions suggest 1-3 scoops a day, but I’m hesitant to take more than one in a 24 hour period. 300mg of caffeine is a lot of me, especially since I’m a coffee drinker as well. My first dose was of a full scoop in the shaker bottle.
While I’ve never taken BCAAs before, I have taken other types of preworkout. And most the time, I stop taking them after the first couple of tries. With other preworkouts, I get that tingling/heart racing feeling which I very much dislike. I didn’t have this feeling with BCAA energy blast. In fact, the caffeine was a nice boost for my lifting session, similar to me having my normal cup of coffee.
Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste at first. I found it a tad gritty, but over the next few days of trying out the BCAA Blast, I started putting my scoop in my much bigger Yeti cup. (I prefer drinking with my metal straw that from the shaker). I found with more water added to the mix, it was actually perfect. I even had a few days were I was using it as a coffee replacement pick-me-up when I had ran out of beans!
The Effer-Hydrate Effervescent Tablets (Tropical Punch) was packaged in a small plastic tube. I enjoy this type of tabs, they’re a bit fizzy and SUPER refreshing in the summer time. One con of salt tabs, if you don’t really need them, they’re taste can really put you off.
But these are great after a good sweat! I waited until we had a hotter day and went for a midday run before trying these tablets out. My reasoning is that with tablets I’ve tried before, they can be very salty for obvious reasons and the taste can be a bit off-putting. But, after a good hard sweat my body just craves salt…. Oh my god, the difference in flavor is AMAZING. I absolutely LOVE THESE when I’m sweat drenched. I’ll be definitely getting more Effer-Hydrate tablets for my June-August runs.
In summary, I was a bit wary of the preworkout BCAA blast at first, but I really did end up falling in love with it. Even replaced my morning coffee with it for a full week! And I will definitely be getting more of the tablets for the summer. Right now through April 30, 2020, use code NOWSPORTS20 for 20% off your purchase of NOW® Sports products at nowsportsproducts.com.
